The Winchester Mystery House

The Winchester Mansion is one of the most famous haunted houses here in California. In 1884, a wealthy widow named Sarah L. Winchester began a construction project of such magnitude that it was to occupy the lives of carpenters and craftsmen until her death thirty-eight years later. The Victorian mansion, designed and built by the Winchester Rifle heiress, is filled with so many unexplained oddities, that it has come to be known as the Winchester Mystery House.

There have been a number of strange events reported at the Winchester Mystery House for many years and they continue to be reported today. Dozens of psychics have visited the house over the years and most have come away convinced, or claim to be convinced, that spirits still wander the place. In addition to the ghost of Sarah Winchester, there have also been many other sightings throughout the years.

There are many stories told about Sarah Winchester and the Winchester Mansion. I had spent a few hours writing my own story on Sarah and her house, only have it all disappear in the blink of a fucking eye. Just as I was adding the last bit of details, I don’t know what keys I hit in conjunction with each other, but it's all gon! So, fuck it! If you are really interested in the history of Sarah Winchester and the mansion, you can click on all the links you see here within this post. All the links for the Winchester Mansion/House are all links to different stories.

My friend and I visited the mansion just yesterday, we did the Behind-the-Scenes tour. I had done the mansion tour a couple of times. Just last year on Friday the 13th in February I did the flashlight tour. I have to say that the flashlight tour was the funnest tour of them all. Flashlight tours are available on every Friday the 13th and at Halloween. This weekend + Halloween night tomorrow (sold out) is the last flashlight tour of the year. Next available tour will be Friday the 13th in January. I highly recommend the flashlight tour. When I went, I was with the ex and there was a group of us. We all had a blast scaring each other.

With secret passageways, miles of switchback corridors, doors which open to blank walls, stairways that lead to nowhere, and chimneys that stop short of the roof line, the Winchester Mystery House is just that. A mystery.

Is the Winchester Mystery House haunted? Is Sarah still throwing lavish, five-course dinner parties & entertaining the spirits of those who have been killed by the rifle that bears the Winchester family name? Can you hear the music playing from the piano or organ? There are many who swear they can hear the music or feel someone or something, and end up walking away from the mansion with an understanding. I myself believe that Sarah is still in her home along with many other spirits. How about you?
