Every year I put my tax return refund towards my vacation. This year I’m having a debate with myself on how I should use the money. Should I pay off some of my bills? Or should I save it for a vacation this year?
Or…
As you all know, I’ve been coveting this camera. I was debating between the Nikon D50 and the D70 model. I’ve finally decided on the Nikon D70s model. The only difference that I’ve read between the two is that the D70s has a faster shutter speed. Other than that, I have no idea what makes it better. However, I do like the fact that its memory card is a CF (Compact Flash) instead of the SD (Secure Digital). I already use a CF with my Canon Elph, so I won’t have to buy another reader.
I’ve also been looking at regular SLR film cameras too. I’ve found this one, which is a Nikon F100. Again, I have no idea what this camera will offer me; I just know that this is the one that I want. Another reason why I need to take photography classes at Chabot. I know I could probably learn just as much if I just went out and bought some books, but I am more of a hands on person and feel that I could learn more in a class room environment. Plus learning darkroom would be fucking awesome.
Just how much would these two camera’s cost me? The Nikon D70s is going to $1,199 with a 18-70mm ED-IF AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor lens with 3.8x optical zoom included. The Nikon F100 body only I have found around $800-$1,000 brand new. Although I have found some used ones on e-Bay for under $500, some with a lens but mostly without.
Some say that the digital SLR cameras will soon push all of the regular SLR’s off the market. I have notice that prices have dropped considerably, then again so has the prices for digital cameras. I do have to admit that I am a gotta-have-it-now girl which is why I love the digital format. I got to say that there is more manipulation you can do with film that you just can’t do with digital. Yeah, there is all this cool software out there now like Photo Shop and all that, that can help you manipulate your photos. But, you know, it just isn’t the same as achieving that great shot you completely set up, from camera to darkroom.
So now I just need to decide what I am going to do. Camera, bills, or vacation?
