So, last week I was out in the garage and heard what sounded like scratching sounds coming from up in the attic. At first I thought that maybe it was mice or rats. I was really hoping not the later of the two. Only because I have two cats. One of them, Sable, is a mouser. I didn't want Sable to end up with any kind of mishap from a rat encounter.
But then I heard a faint cry. Having had a lot of cats, quite a few of them unfixed females, I knew that sound only too well! Crap! Did a cat get into my attic and have her babies?! And if so, how in the hell did she get into the attic in the first place!
Okay, time to go get the ladder and drag it over to the attic opening. Hmmm... I can't see a damned thing. Too dark.
Down the ladder in search of light. Got it! Found a battery operated lantern. Back up the ladder again.
Still can't see a damned thing. Too much shit in the way!
Holy shit! That made me jump. Damn cat came barreling out from the dark and up the hole from the vent that goes up to the roof. So that is how she got in here!
Still have to move things out of the way. I can hear Mama pacing back 'n forth on top of the roof. She's worried that I am going to hurt her babies.
I still can't see a damned thing. She had them too far back. The floor was not laid all the way back up there. She had them in between the beams one section away from the end of the attic. I can hear them though. Great! Now what in the hell am I going to do with the babies?!
Since the ladder is not high enough for me to climb all the way up into the attic, I'm going to have the have the boyfriend climb up. I need to know how many are up there.
Turns out I've got 4 babies! Cute as hell. Eyes not quite open yet at the time. I have checked on them today, took some pictures. Their eyes are now open. The Mama cat is a feral that hangs out in the neighborhood. Gonna have to take the babies from her within the next couple of weeks so they too do not end up feral. I know a good organization called Furry Friends Rescue out of Fremont, CA. I've contacted them and hoping they will take them and foster them until they are old enough to adopt.
So much for there being ghosts up in the attic... They would have been a lot easier to deal with.
