RockStar INXS

Okay, I'm not one to watch all these damn reality shows. I don't really watch a whole lot of TV anyhow. I do have some shows that I do like to watch, but I can never remember what days they are on, so I end up missing them nevertheless. I have been trying to remember to watch RockStar INXS though. And if I miss the actual shows on Tuesday's & Wednesday's on NBC I eventually catch them on VH1 over the weekend, or at least try to. I have missed quite a few of the shows. You can guess that the only reason I DID start watching RockStar was because I found out that Dave Navarro was hosting the show.

I didn't catch RockStar until about the week 6 show, which was the song writing clinic. To anyone who has half a brain, the clinic was to see how well they can work as a group, even though each of them is competing against each other for the coveted spot as lead singer for INXS. However, the guys of INXS wanted to see how well they can work as a group, as is the working relationship of a band. CDs and sheet music of a new INXS song were handed out to the remaining Rockers (at this time it was down to 8 of them), for which they have to write a melody and lyrics to. They have one day to come up with them. Now up to this point, I had no idea how any of these remaining musicians sounded. I sat and watched the two groups dive head into the new INXS song, everyone throwing in their ideas. The group that had Marty, Jordis, J.D. and Jessica wasn't working well. J.D.s idea of what the song sounded like was not the same as the other three's. Hearing what the other three were coming up with, I didn't think it was all that good either. So the three of them continued to work on the song together while J.D. went off by himself and worked on his own vision of the song.

Of course this didn't go over well with the guys of INXS when it was time to hear what the two groups came up with. The songs that both of the groups came up with sounded like songs you'd hear on some kiddy show. Dave and the guys of INXS notice that when J.D.s group sang the song he was just sitting there with a closed notebook. Dave notices that J.D. is silent and asks him why. "I just didn't feel this at all," and left the group, he explains. Dave continues, telling everyone that the song was not really the focus; teamwork was, so the other team won. But he's curious to hear J.D.'s version. J.D. may have missed the point of the assignment, but Dave had to admit J.D. wrote the better song after hearing it.

I thought J.D.s song kicked ass. It 'fit' the INXS sound and it just sounded like an INXS song. I could see and hear
Michael Hutchence singing it in my head as I was hearing it. It was from that first time ever seeing the show, first time seeing any of the musicians, yet still not having seen any of the musicians perform or sing, that my mind was made up right then and there that J.D. was INXS. Just like Brian Johnson with AC/DC. Everyone was skeptical about them replacing Bon Scott, and so soon after his death. I mean com'mon, Bon Scott was AC/DC! How do you go about replacing an integral part of a band, of a family member?! You can't. But! There is always the other one out there some where that also just like family. There is no explanation for it, but they too also fit within the family, as if they had always been there. And when Back In Black came out, we were all just blown away. Brian wrote all the lyrics for the songs on the Black In Black album and they sounded like AC/DC songs. This is how I feel about J.D. He's cocky as all hell, but I think if given the opportunity, I know that J.D. is INXS. That is just my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.

Last week they sung the songs the fans chose for them in the rockstar.msn.com Request Week Poll and they each got a chance to show INXS what they bring to the creative table by singing an original song for their performance show. Now down to Jordis, Marty, 'Sweet' Suzie, J.D., and Mig. J.D.s original song for the show was 'Pretty Vegas', the song he wrote in the song writing clinic to INXS's unfinished track. The fans also got to choose the encore song for the elimination show. J.D. won hands down with 'Pretty Vegas'. However, J.D. ended up in the bottom three again with Jordis and Suzie. Jordis ended up being the one sent home. The bottom three have to sing an INXS song chosen by the guys. Mig has had to sing an INXS song for the guys; he's never been in the bottom three. Yet... I don't think that Suzie is going to be sticking around much longer either. She has been in the bottom three the most out of all of them. This was like her 5th or 6th time in the bottom three again.

Week 10, this week: We now have two new original songs being sung by two of the Rockers that seems to be popular and which Dave and INXS really like. Marty with his stupid original song 'Trees', (Sorry Dave, but I disagree with you on thinking that is a song that you can hear being played on the radio today. That's just my opinion!) and J.D.s song 'Pretty Vegas'. Which both J.D. and Marty both sung again as their second song during the performance show. Dave Navarro joined all the musicians on stage for each of their performances. Marty changed up 'Trees' a bit by doing it acoustic. I missed this show though, but caught last night's.

The evening starts with the announcement of this week's encore. For the second week in a row it was chosen by 'Rock Star:INXS' fans on rockstar.msn.com. The honor goes to Marty for his performance of 'Trees'. However, Dave throws the choice of opening encore to the studio audience who, in a close show of applause, gives the nod to J.D. J.D. makes a last-minute decision to go acoustic for his fourth time performing 'Pretty Vegas'. Marty, asking the audience if they want to hear 'Trees' acoustic or the breaking of the acoustic guitar on stage if they want to hear it electric. Electric was the winner, Marty smashed the guitar all up on the stage and started in on 'Trees'. Dave and the guys all like both of the songs, but it has been admitted by Dave that he can't get the song out of his head, however Dave isn't the one making the final choice. INXS is, and I've watched the guys of INXS when J.D. is singing 'Pretty Vegas', they get more into that song than they do 'Trees'.

The final three this week? 'Sweet 'Suzy, J.D., and Mig. Migs first time ever in the final three. First time he has ever had to sing an INXS song for the guys. Who got sent home? 'Sweet' Suzie.

Only three of them left. J.D., Marty and Mig. Next week only one of them will become the new singer of INXS. Who do you think it will be? I think the competition is going to be between J.D. and Marty. But you all know who I think know it will be...

J.D.
