Murphy's Law And A Camera

Recently I just acquired a new SLR camera. Well, new to me anyway! It’s one of Nikon’s older N6006 model that I found on e-Bay for a pretty good price. I figured it would be a good camera to practice with until I get to where I know what the fuck I am totally doing. Then I will upgrade to the digital SLR camera that I’ve been coveting for-ever! I will also upgrade the regular SLR to one that has a faster shutter speed. I have so many ideas in my head that I want to capture onto negatives! But I decided on this camera because a friend of mine is letting me borrow his same exact camera that was in pristine condition. Uh yeah, I said was. However, Murphy’s Law was about to decided my fate and I accidentally dropped the damn thing. Let me explain here that it was a complete accident! (Also let me just say that I had bought my camera before I dropped his, but I was not going to be getting it until earlier this week.)

My Friend had given me the camera that was inside a little backpack bag. And the genius who designed this little backpack also gave it a side opening that you can unzip without having to open the flap and undo the drawstring on top that closes it. Hell, I probably never would have seen it was there had he not have shown it to me! Well, It was after I took some pictures last Saturday and I had put the camera back in the bag. Only I forgot to zip the damn thing back up. Wenchy and I were taking off to do some shopping, I wanted to bring the camera with me cause they have some huge ass crows there in Ukiah, and I wanted to take some pictures of the bastards. I was adjusting one of the straps on the opposite side of the zipper when all of a sudden I feel the movement of something dropping out from the bag. OH! MY! GAWD! I just dropped the fucking camera onto the driveway blacktop.

I pick it up and give it a quick once over to make sure that I didn’t fuck it up too badly. First thing I see is there is a scratch on the rim of the lens. FUCK! DAMN IT! WTF!?! Okay, just put the camera back in the bag and assess the damage later when I am more calm, cool and collected.

Later inspection I see that the lens in fact suffered no damage. The damage that I saw was to the lens filter that I had went out and bought right after he gave me the thing. I wanted to make sure that lens was going to stay scratch free while in my possession. I’m glad I did buy it, because that filter took the brunt of the fall for the lens. However, there are a few dent marks on top of the flash where it met the driveway. Other than that, the camera is fine. It still works and no other damage was done to it. However, I am really pissed at Murphy and I want to kick his ass. Now all I have to do is face my friend and explain to him what happened. I’m not looking forward to that. He entrusted his camera to me and I failed miserably.

So, while I was in Ukiah at my Wenchy’s last weekend (February 10th-12th), I thought I’d take advantage of the nice weather. Of course I was really too lazy to actually get in my car and drive anywhere, I opted for Wenchy’s backyard. I ended up making Wenchy’s cats my test subjects for the day. Let me tell you, cats just do not know how to take direction AT ALL! The pictures you will see below were taken Saturday morning sometime between 9-12. I thought these were the best shots out of the roll. Enjoy!

BTW, these were taken before I dropped the camera. Damn, just saying that still pisses me off. Grrr!
